Charlie Massey gave oral evidence to the Health Select Committee today as part of the Committee’s ongoing questions on the ramifications of Brexit for health and social care. ‘We are clear that the registration of EEA physicians presently on our register will be untouched by the UK’s departure from the EU. Nevertheless we recently surveyed over 2,000 EEA medical professionals practising in the UK and they have told us that their future status here is a genuine concern. GMC reacts to calls to get rid of barriers preventing ‘off-licence’ usage of Avastin

General Medical Council Reacting to the letter from NHS Clinical Commissioners requiring the GMC, Department of Health and NHS England to remove the present barriers preventing the ‘off-licence’ usage of Avastin, Niall Dickson, Chief Executive of the General Medical Council, said: ‘We have simply received the letter from NHS Medical Commissioners in England which we will now reflect upon and respond to soon. ‘However, in the meantime, as our assistance explains, we support the efficient use of NHS resources and we are considerate to the argument that a much better service has to be discovered for making use of Avastin in the treatment of damp age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
