We react to the Health Secretary’s keynote speech. Charlie Massey, Chief Executive of the General Medical Council, stated: ‘We invite the Secretary of State’s dedication to checking out methods of expanding access to medicine, and we will now work with HEE, the MSC and others to look closely at these concerns. ‘The modern-day health care system is made up of a wider variety of medical specialists than ever before and it is very important that we consider how finest they can make their contribution to enhancing the quality of patient care and safety. That may mean greater versatility over development and motion between occupations, and greater incentive for medical leaders to take up management roles.
