New Chair sought for medical professional tribunal service The General Medical Council(GMC)is hiring for a brand-new Chair of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS). The present Chair, His Honour David Pearl, is stepping down next year after 5 years in the role, and the GMC will designate a new candidate who will use up the function in early 2017. The MPTS was established in 2012 in the biggest shake-up of fitness to practise hearings since the GMC wased initially developed in 1858. It plays a critical function in the security of clients by making independent choices about a doctor’s fitness to practise, measured against expert standards set by the GMC. An expert obstetrician and gynaecologist is dealing with accusations of bad expert efficiency at a Medical Council physical fitness to practise query. It is claimed the medical professional at South Tipperary General Hospital incorrectly identified an ectopic pregnancy in a patient in January 2013, when the pregnancy was in fact in the womb. The physician advised that a drug called Methotrexate, which stops pregnancy, be prescribed and the patient subsequently had a miscarriage. It is alleged that ‘Dr A’ cannot rule out an intra-uterine pregnancy and needs to have adopted a wait-and-see method and have purchased more scans and tests.
